Equinor bought 720,335 own shares under buy-back tranche
Equinor said it had purchased 720,335 own shares from 28 September to 2 October 2026 at an average price of NOK 399.9378 per share under its third tranche for 2026.
What happened
From 28 September to 2 October 2026, Equinor ASA purchased a total of 720,335 own shares at an average price of NOK 399.9378 per share. The company reported a total transaction value of 288,089,220.53 for the period. A share buy-back meant the company bought its own shares and held them itself.
Previously disclosed buy-backs under the same tranche were 6,269,053 shares at 394.7910 for 2,474,965,565.91. Accumulated buy-backs under the tranche were 6,989,388 shares at 395.3214 for 2,763,054,786.45. The company presented the accumulated figure alongside the earlier purchases and the latest period.
For holders, such purchases mattered because treasury shares were not in free circulation while held by the company. The announcement therefore helped holders track how the tranche was carried out and what remained held by the company.
Treasury holding showed what the purchases meant for holders
Equinor ASA owned a total of 21,624,123 own shares, corresponding to 0.90% of Equinor ASA’s share capital. Excluding shares under Equinor’s share savings programme, it owned a total of 10,524,363 own shares, corresponding to 0.44% of the share capital. Treasury shares was the term for own shares held by the company itself.
For private investors, the distinction mattered because shares tied to the savings programme served a different purpose than other treasury shares. Reporting the totals allowed holders to see the size of each holding without mixing the groups.
A buy-back did not by itself explain a company’s results or financial position. Holders therefore needed the treasury figures alongside the transaction values to place the purchases in context.
Tranche dates and filing framed the update for holders
