BMW adds 612 hp iX4 M60 xDrive to Neue Klasse range
BMW expanded its Neue Klasse portfolio with the fully electric iX4, topped by the iX4 M60 xDrive with maximum output of 450 kW/612 hp.
What happened
BMW presented the new iX4 as the next Neue Klasse model. Two drive system variants were planned at launch in March 2027, where a variant meant a version with its own motor set-up. The range-topping BMW iX4 M60 xDrive was to follow shortly afterwards.
Like all BMW iX4 variants, the flagship model had one electric motor at the front axle and one at the rear. Together they produced maximum output of 450 kW/612 hp and 875 Nm (645 lb-ft) of torque, the twisting force that helped a car accelerate. That layout spread drive across the front and rear of the car.
Emotional electric model widens choice within family
Mike Reichelt, Head of Neue Klasse, BMW Compact and Midsize Class, explained: "With the new fully electric BMW iX4, we are expanding the Neue Klasse portfolio with a particularly emotional vehicle." According to the company, the iX4 added an emotional option to that electric portfolio.
The line-up logic centred on choice within the same electric family, with the flagship sitting above the launch versions. Performance hardware fitted as standard and distinct design gave the top version a separate character. For private investors, that structure mattered because model mix and equipment affected how the offer was positioned. The announcements described the positioning, not sales or financial effects.
Powerful iX3 version shows shared technology behind range
BMW also presented the most powerful variant yet of its Neue Klasse Sports Utility Vehicle, a high-riding passenger car type. The new BMW iX3 M60 xDrive had an electric motor at each axle, produced maximum output of 450 kW/612 hp and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds. The high-performance variant came as standard with features including adaptive M suspension, a system that adjusted damping, alongside particularly striking looks.
These models therefore shared the same layout idea, with drive spread over the front and rear. The emphasis on standard chassis equipment and appearance suggested performance was framed as comfort and style as well as speed. That common approach made the technology easier to compare across the electric range.
