Van Lanschot Kempen took over €26 billion in fiduciary assets
Aegon AM transferred its Dutch fiduciary management activities, representing circa €26 billion in fiduciary assets, to Van Lanschot Kempen Investment Management. The transfer was expected to take effect in the third quarter of 2027.
What happened
Aegon AM transferred its Dutch fiduciary management activities to Van Lanschot Kempen Investment Management. The activities accounted for circa €26 billion in fiduciary assets under management. The agreement for the transfer was expected to become effective in the third quarter of 2027. In fiduciary management, an outside manager handled investments for pension clients.
Approximately 30 employees in the Netherlands were expected to move from Aegon AM to Van Lanschot Kempen. Aegon AM continued to provide liquid multi-manager investment solutions to fiduciary clients. The move of clients and activities was to take place in phases and was expected to continue until mid-2028.
Partnership gave Van Lanschot Kempen new fixed-income expertise with limited capital impact
Aegon AM became the strategic partner of Van Lanschot Kempen for alternative fixed income, a category of bonds and loans outside regular markets. Van Lanschot Kempen appointed Aegon AM as strategic adviser for its Alternative Fixed Income Solution (AFIS) fund-of-funds, a fund that invested in other funds. This included investment strategies such as Dutch private debt, loans to companies outside banks, and mortgages.
According to the company, the transfer and the partnership had a marginal impact on its CET1 capital ratio. That ratio showed how much core capital a bank held against risks.
For investors, the structure left day-to-day bond management with Aegon AM while fiduciary responsibility moved to Van Lanschot Kempen. That split explained why the deal combined a transfer with a long-term advisory role.
Van Lanschot Kempen already ran large fiduciary book backed by big pension funds
Van Lanschot Kempen held €98 billion in fiduciary assets under management, with both figures as of 30 June 2026. The Aegon AM activities added circa €26 billion on that same reference date. In fiduciary work, the manager oversaw strategy and managers for pension clients.
